You Said What?

Last night Emerson was doing just great when I walked out of the NICU doors at 10:30 . He was exhausted but this was expected after a strenuous bath that he was given. He did not like his bath at all and it wore the little guy out to the point of him deciding it wasn't important to breath. I got home fell asleep and set my alarm for 5:30 in the morning so I could call and check on him. When I called I asked to speak with the nurse , I never spoke to the nurse and she transferred me directly to the Dr.

The Dr. proceeded to explain that Emerson was not doing so well and no longer tolerating his feeds. His belly had become very distended and his Gerth was much larger than before. Over the course of the morning several x-rays were taken and they saw that the intestines were very inflamed and no longer working. They appeared on the x-ray to be layered and inflamed. I guess these x-rays was their final determinate to go ahead with exploratory surgery. So tomorrow Emerson is scheduled for exploratory surgery.

I am very nervous about the word exploratory. There is just something that seems to make me a little hesitant. I no longer thought Emerson would need surgery he was doing so well . In my mind I could see the end of our NICU stay coming to a close ...not anymore.

Oh Marisa, I am so sorry! We will pray the surgeons are alert and aware. I sure hope you have some help with Stratton. Thank you so much for all the updates! We will all be anxious to hear how he does today.

Praying for you that a miracle can happen today, with or without the surgery.
