Here's The Thing

Recently Emerson has been a bit of a handful . . . he is getting better now but for a few weeks there I needed to take several time outs . He would like to talk so badly but can't yet and is trying to find a way to communicate and in doing so he would yell and then break down and cry. He is cute when he cry's but so much cuter when he is his usual smiling, happy self.

One particular day I must have had less patience then normal and i had had enough. Emerson had been crying and yelling non- stop and so finally I said that is it and put him in time out in my room . I closed the door behind me and Stratton while watching me looked so confused. I said with frustration under my breath , " ahhhh, I can't take the crying it is driving me nuts ". Stratton looked up and me and said , " I know , it is driving us nuts and we don't like nuts do we Mom".

I sat down on the couch and it must have been less then a minute when Stratton came to me and said , " Mom , I gotta go tell Emerson here's the thing". I looked at Stratton and not quite sure what he was talking about I asked him , " huh". He repeated , " I need to go tell Emerson here's the thing ,like dad does". Confused I just agreed and watched him go quietly go into our bedroom where Emerson was spending his time out. Curious at what Stratton was going to do I slowly made my way to the bedroom door and peeked around the corner. Stratton had his hand on Emerson's back and he said in the sweetest voice , " Emerson, here's the thing you can't cry because we don't like crying" . Stratton was so gentle with Emerson and he quit crying right when Stratton started talking to him . I was so impressed with Stratton and his sweet love that he showed to Emerson .

I had one of those ah hah moments and I realized like I have so many times before just how much I love the man I married. Stratton was only doing exactly what he had seen so many times before . He wanted Emerson to feel that gentle love just like David had made him feel each time he gets in trouble. David is so kind with the boys and I can't get over how much I love that about him.

Besides being such a great Dad he is one handsome guy ! My goodness he is smokin' ...
