Another year means another fun time at Kinder springs . Camping was fun this year! We shared a trailer again with Dean and Barbara and the highlight of the trip for all the kids were the horny toad lizards. I have not seen a horny toad in years and this year at kinder springs there were at least 5 that I saw . The tire swing is always a popular hit and this year I think David started a new tradition of crawdad fishing with bacon. You simply take a stick and tie a piece of string with a slice of raw bacon to it and drop it in the water. The crawdads love the bacon and one or two crawdads grab a hold of the meat. Catching crawdads was a lot of fun and all of the kids and also the adults loved it . Also it was our lucky day because at dry lake where we were fishing the local rednecks were holding the great raccoon races. David remembered seeing this when he was younger and so it was fun for us to see it and be there the same weekend they compete. It was interesting because the people really take this very seriously and I can honestly say I have never seen more rednecks gathered in one place.
Stratton packed all of the pockets in his adventure vest with everything and anything he might need in the forest. He had a map , tissues , handcuffs , hat , binoculars , flashlight , a pocket knife and who knows what else.
The cousins were running and hiding in the woods near where they built a fort. I was searching for them and Dusty found a great hiding place .
One of the best things about camping this year for Stratton was he learned how to drive the ATV all by himself. I would ride with him of course but he would give me rides all throughout the forest with no help . He did so great and I think because he is so cautious every now and then I caught myself saying you need to go a little bit faster.
Audra's little girl Daisy . I thought these pictures were especially cute and camping is all about family so I made sure to include several pictures of family . It will be fun to reminisce one day about all of these pictures.
Emerson and Raquel have taken quite the liking to one another. They loved being together and spent most of the time playing in the dirt.
It doesn't get much cheesier then this :)
This is the raccoon races that I mentioned at the start of the blog . I am really hoping that this raccoon is someones pet and doesn't really get eaten . He didn't seem to mind the dogs as much as he should of . Or he may have just been terrified , either way this was something that I never had seen before. I never saw so many rednecks gathered in one place for an event well maybe at country thunder but that is much different.
After fishing for crawdads I saw Emerson with his foot up on this log cleaning the mud off of his shoes. He never asked for help just saw something that needed to be done , grabbed a stick and started scrapping the mud off. I love how he just does things and is not needy of me all the time. It is GREAT!
We found this cool spot on the way to potato that we thought would make a great camping spot . It had this large rock with a small cave type thing you could sit under for shelter . The kids had to stop and climb to the top of the rocks .
A family picture in front of potato lake. In my opinion potato lake wins the prettiest spot at kinder springs.
Stratton and Emerson are the sweetest boys . Whenever they see a flower they always stop and pick it for their Mama . I do not look forward to the days when they quit being so thoughtful .
Stratton using his gymnastic skills to balance across this fallen tree over a raveen .
This is the last day of camping . Look at that dirty boy !
Right before we left for home Stratton found this huge moth . He was so proud that he caught such a big moth all by himself . I told him he needed to let it go or it would die and he had a major melt down . Dirty tears were running down his face and he kept saying but it loves me . Weeks later I showed him this picture of him and his moth and he ran out of the room crying . When I asked him what was wrong he said, " why did you make me let my moth go ? "
