Home Sweet Home

Today was such a relief , I was able to go back to the hospital and visit Emerson. The last few days we have been sick at our house with flu bug and it has jumped from person to person very quickly. Stratton , Kalvin, Angie , Tristen , Mom and I all seemed to come down with a different yet very miserable strain of this virus. Well anyways today I finally felt good enough to return to the hospital and visit Emerson.
When I was walking out the door Angie said, " wait , I have been meaning to give this to you. " I opened up the plastic bag and inside there were perfectly edited , printed, and matted pictures of Emerson. I couldn't believe with everything going on Angie still managed to find the time to do something so great that she knew would mean the world to me. She couldn't have given me a better gift and I could hardly wait to decorate Emerson's home at the hospital.
Emerson, today was a rough day for you and Mama in the NICU . When I first arrived at the hospital your sweet nurse told me that you were a very bad boy this morning . She said that you quit breathing not once but twice , you were worn out and giving up. I thought we talked about breathing Mr. Emerson. Breathing is very IMPORTANT! You have been having brady's very often and the Dr.s are starting to worry about you . You gained 140 grams last night and I can tell you are much more puffy than you have been. More than 6 lbs and probable 4 .5 lbs of dry weight. You are given Lasix and we hope that you will start peeing the extra fluid right off . I held you for 30 minutes today because your condition isn't too good . Emerson when I was holding you I realized more than ever that your little body was limp and cold your skin a grayish color. Even when you were at your worst on morphine I hadn't seen you act this lethargic. I am very worried about you and all I can do is hold you and cry. Sepsis : the Dr.s tell me that they believe you have Sepsis . I have no idea ,except that this is an infection in the blood. I don't dare look anything up on the internet. I don't want to know ANYTHING about the percentage of babies with your condition that didn't make it . You are a strong little boy and I know that you will make it!

The blood tests and cultures are sent off to the lab and we are awaiting the results.

I just got a phone call while writing this post from the Dr. at St. Joseph's to give my consent for yet another blood transfusion. When will this end ...
