A Day Later

When I walked into Emerson pod this afternoon he looked awful. I am not surprised because this was expected right after intestinal surgery. He was lying flat on his back with his hands and legs sprawled out. The nurse told me she had tried to reposition him several times but he did not want to be touched . He was most comfortable exactly like he was and so she wasn't going to try and move him around. I was surprised to see how swollen he had become. His little face was so swollen. The nurse assured me that this was normal and it would go down. He is on two pain killers : morphine and something else that sounds like indocet . I can't remember exactly what she had said but the point is is that they were keeping him comfortable and he is feeling a minimal amount of pain.

Marissa-
Forgive me but I have just spent the last hour or so reading every word of your blog. I think medals should be given to moms like us. We need big Real gold medallions that are handed out after traumatic motherhood experiences that lets the world know that we are olympians. And we are not humble or ashamed. We are just strong. You are sooooooo strong Marissa. Hang in there and I love you. And I know its difficult to compare my accidental surgeries to an infants, but surgeries really do look the worst the days following but it is just part of the healing. We'll continue to pray for your little angel.

Oh Marisa,
Only someone like you could be strong enough to go through something like this... really, I am amazed everyday at your courage and optimistic attitude. You are better than most. Thank you so much for updating the blog. I've been checking several times a day to see updates.
You are one who so many look up to as a pillar of strength, thank you for sharing that with the rest of us.

I'm so glad surgery was successful! Happy to see the pictures and we can't wait to see you guys. You have been amazing through this whole ordeal. Emerson must be something special to be such a fighter after everything he has been through. He looks so big in the pictures! We love all of you!
