I am sure everyone is interested but Emerson pooped tonight. That's what I said, he POOPED and I cried ! It is unbelievable how thankful I am for what seems like a normal yet disgusting everyday bodily function. This means the surgery was a HUGE success and he is starting to show signs of improvement. They would not start feeds until he pooped , so he is scheduled to start eating again on Sunday. I am so excited and can't wait for him to get on the right path to come home...
I just have to say I simply hate that he is back on the ventilator and showing no signs of being able to come off. The anesthesiologist and surgeon both made be aware before surgery that he would be put on the ventilator for the surgery and would then be taken off right before they brought him back up to the NICU or shortly after. Well it is three days later and he is still on the ventilator. He hates it and has pulled it out twice over the last two days. When he pulls it out he turns blue ...they panic and quickly place him back on the ventilator. The nurses have discontinued the Morphine today and so needless to say Emerson is much more alert and irritable. He hates the large ventilator ET tube and Gomco suction tube that goes down his throat. The entire time I was there today I could just see him screaming HELP Mama. It broke my heart to see him just continually gagging. I sure hope he will be able to get those stupid tubes out very soon.
